Welcoming a New Ethical Framework for Mental Health

New Universal Ethical Framework for Mental Health Practitioners

Traditional professional codes have historically restricted mental health to the individual psyche, often treating political, historical, and ecological violence merely as "context". Acknowledging how professional neutrality and institutional obedience enabled past atrocities, a newly published framework spearheaded by Palestinian Psychiatrist and author, Dr. Samah Jabr establishes a vital global standard in the face of the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the many threats that humanity faces in our troubling times.  I warmly encourage all colleagues and clients to read the Universal Ethical Framework for Mental Health Practitioners issued by Psychoanalytic Voices for Palestine (PVP)

As the framework's closing statement emphasizes: “Mental health practice cannot be neutral between dignity and dehumanisation, truth and denial, life and preventable destruction. Healing begins when we name injustice, not when we silence it.”
